Local Denturist receives international award for dentures
Every 2 years, the world’s largest dental convention is held in Cologne, Germany. Well-known dental brands/companies, like 3M and Candulor (a Swiss Dental company), come from all over the world to show case their latest innovations, improved dental technology and products. The convention, held in mid-March showcased Brock's denture as one of the best in the world. So how did he receive such accolades and this prestigious title? Well, he competed in a world-wide denture competition! It’s like the Olympics for Denturists – they compete in hopes to have their denture showcased and ranked among the world’s best. The Swiss dental company and school, called Candulor, hosts the denture competition and this was their 13th International. They received over 100 world-wide submissions across 4 continents. Each competitor receives the same patient description, mouth moulds, and criteria to create the dentures. The criterions are based on specific factors that a patient would normally request, like showing more upper and lower teeth, having a less protruding chin and more age-appropriate realistic looking teeth. Each competitor is required to custom-make the denture using their skills, knowledge and specific denture techniques. Those who placed in the top 15 were invited to attend the awards presentation ceremony in Cologne. With much anticipation and expectation, Brock was delighted to find out that he had placed in the top 15 and received a personal invite to attend the awards ceremony. He was honoured to receive 14th place for his denture work.
With the skills and knowledge he’s acquired he has been asked to start providing lectures and courses on
the art of Denturism. Ultimately, he says, “the best part is being able to serve my current and future patients in Winnipeg, Selkirk and the surrounding areas with excellent quality dentures, because people deserve the best that I myself and everyone in our clinic can offer.”
When asked what makes his dentures award-winning, he said “it’s about identifying what each patient wants and what’s important for them to love their new teeth and then find a creative solution to do just that. Also, you have to identify the things that they don’t like or had a bad experience with previously, and make sure we don’t do the same thing again. I give a lot of credit to my dad (who was also a Denturist). He taught me that there’s always a creative solution to any denture problem.”
Brock has competed three times in the international denture competition, with his highest place being 1st in North America.
